Kellie Pickler On Skin Care, Excessive Heels, And Being A Tomboy
Country songstress Kellie Pickler is the definition of a sweet, Southern woman, oozing lovable charm from the moment you tape meet her. Pickler shot to stardom after competing within the fifth season of American Idol at age 19 in 2005 (she completed in sixth place), and shortly thereafter released her debut album Small Town Lady, which included her first hit, “Red High Heels.” Upon assembly her, the first thing Pickler does is go in for a giant hug, displaying off her fit frame in a tank top, denims and heels. She notes that she doesn’t usually wear heels — although it’s a common misconception due to her hit track — and would reasonably cling out with her husband doing yard work and getting down and dirty.
Pickler not too long ago released her newest album, a hundred Proof, and is on tour throughout the country selling it. She has teamed up with Tone Fruit Peel body wash for their Tone Flip it Up! series the place she’ll be running a blog throughout her tour, doing live Facebook chats and giving fans the prospect to participate in giveaways in addition to a grand prize of an all-expenses paid journey to Nashville to satisfy Pickler. Below, Pickler fills us in on every thing from her skin care routine to her favorite merchandise to make use of when she does her own stage makeup (clearly our minds have been blown by this).
Magnificence High: Since you’re always performing, how do you retain your pores and skin in tip-prime shape
Kelly Pickler: Have you ever smelled this [Tone body wash] It’s wonderful. I really like the scent.
BH: Are you drawn to fruity scents
KP: Not always. But this … I suppose maybe it’s the citrus. There’s kiwi in it. It’s not heavy and it’s actually hydrating. And I exploit it to shave, too. It’s a two-in-one! It’s actually great on your pores and skin.Very hydrating. Especially touring lots and flying and what not. A lot of water too. Water is the best thing you are able to do in your body. So yeah, water. And I like my Clarisonic.
BH: You mentioned traveling, and you’re clearly at all times hurrying to the subsequent metropolis. Do you’ve gotten any should-haves on the street
KP: Effectively, usually I’ve my dogs with me. So I suppose my foremost accessory is my two small canine. They arrive out on the street. They didn’t come at present, however they usually are with me at all times. I love when I’m just touring or I’m not working, if I’m not in stage makeup, I’ve a ponytail, a baseball hat — my favorite Carolina hat — and my UNC hat. Jeans. Boots. Like, I’m so way more of a tomboy. It’s humorous as a result of folks generally … effectively, I think due to my first tune, “Red High Heels,” people think that’s the one factor I wear. It’s like one song. I just wore these shoes that one time — for that one break-up! I don’t put on them everyday. But yeah, I’m very, very much a tomboy. I like yard work. I like mowing. I love pulling weeds.
BH: hair pages It’s like a stress reliever.
KP: It actually is. I guess I’m telling you that because my husband and that i are in like a landscaping process right now — planting vines and flowers and bushes and timber. A lot. But something that allows me to be outdoors, I like. Kayaking, canoeing, hiking, riding bikes. Walking the canine. We’ve a bigger dog — half pit, part lab. So, we take her for walks. I don’t run. Until I’m trying to get to a sale!
BH: You’ve gotten a great signature blonde hair color. How do you maintain it
KP: I go to the salon in Nashville. It’s called Fresh. Bryan does my color.
BH: Do you employ any particular products
KP: Kevin Murphy has a very, actually great hair mask. There are instances the place my hair just appears like a crispy French fry, and that i sleep with it on. You set that on and you don’t have to do anything — you need to use any type of conditioner. Just put that on and sleep with it on and that actually helps. That mask is just really thick, so it’s very hydrating for your hair. Not washing your hair on daily basis helps too … If you’re gonna be home for the weekend and you’re not going wherever and also you don’t have to look good … you’ll be able to wash every part else, simply don’t wash your hair. Give your hair a break, because every time you wash it, you strip out the natural oils so it never makes it all the way down to the tip and the ends break off — especially with colour.
BH: After the past few years of being on stage and having your makeup and hair performed, have you ever realized any nice ideas
KP: I truly do my own. I imply, as we speak I didn’t. Debbie did my make-up at this time. But we had Tv earlier. I all the time have her when I have stuff like this or award reveals. You don’t wish to deal with it — you don’t need to worry about it, you’ve gotten enough to worry about. So that basically takes a weight off your shoulders … But like on tour or something like that … I simply do my own.
BH: Have you ever at all times been focused on makeup
KP: I’m extra of like a pores and skin particular person than I am as far as make-up. If we were just going to go get our nails done proper now, I would not be carrying something. But I do love mascara.
BH: I should ask — are these your real lashes [Ed word: They had been miles long!]
KP: No! They’re simply little individuals that you will get on the drug retailer really low-cost.
BH: I was going to say, if those are natural I could be extremely jealous.
KP: Those strips are so uncomfortable they usually all the time come unglued and they just look heavy, you already know. Or gaudy. However the person ones … you may make them full or simply put a few. Simply use tweezers.
BH: So what would you say is a traditional stage make-up look for you
KP: As far as my makeup goes I love MAC. They have actually great stage makeup. They have a mineral pressed powder now for like everyday put on. However I exploit that for stage too. I don’t like using liquid. I do sometimes, I’ll change it up. I like Bare Minerals. I believe they’ve great, simply recent. However principally MAC. I love a few of Bobbi Brown eyeshadows and lip … However I take advantage of a bit of little bit of every part. Kat Von D has great eyeshadows, too. However I imply you simply have to search out what works for you as a result of everybody’s pores and skin is totally different.
BH: Just one final question. Whose model do you really admire
KP: You know who I feel has a pure, gorgeous look Jennifer Aniston. She has great hair and she could make a pair of flip-flops and lower-off shorts appear to be one million bucks. However even her dressing up — I mean she’s so classy-wanting. She’s so beautiful, I feel. I’d in all probability say her. And I really like her makeup — it’s so fresh. You’ll be able to glam it up for the carpet or for an occasion — I like her entire look. I believe she’s gorgeous.
