Based on Dr. Andrew Weil, hempseeds can be used to make oil, milk or protein powder, all of which contain a healthy dose of omega-6 and omega-3 essential fatty acids. In “Beauty by Nature” by Brigitte Mars, the author notes that hempseed oil in shampoo can relieve dry, itchy scalp and add shine to hair. Some specialty shampoos and conditioners available online contain hempseed oil, but you can make your own chemical-free oil-infused hair products or apply hempseed oil topically.
Make Hempseed Oil Shampoo
Mix ½ cup each of water and liquid soap in a mixing bowl. This recipe comes from Janice Cox in “Natural Beauty for All Seasons./p>
Add ½ tsp. hempseed oil. Cox’s recipe uses light vegetable oil, but hempseed oil’s superior moisturizing qualities make it a great choice for dry, brittle hair.
Stir all ingredients with a wooden spoon and pour the mixture into an empty shampoo bottle.
Shampoo as usual. Los Angeles hairstylist Philip B. tells “Marie Claire” magazine that you need to only shampoo every single day when you’ve got greasy, oily buildup. In case your hair isn’t oily, wash it every other day or every third day, brushing beforehand to work oil away from the scalp.
Use your fingers to massage hempseed oil directly into your scalp. In keeping with “Beauty by Natureby Brigitte Mars, hempseed oil penetrates the skin better than other vegetable oils utilized in lotions or creams. The oil helps heal irritated tissue and restore skin’s moisture content.
Brush your scalp after applying the hempseed oil. Corey Powell, stylist on the Salon by Maxime in Beverly Hills, tells “Marie Claire” magazine that brushing actually stimulates hair growth by increasing the flow of blood to the scalp.
Use heat to work the oil out of your scalp to the tips of your hair. Powell uses a hair dryer, gently heating the oil and dealing it all the way down to the ends to guard them from styling damage and the tough drying effects of shampoo.
Make a Hempseed Oil Hair Mask
Mix 3 tbsp. milk, a banana, an avocado, 3 tbsp. honey, 3 tbsp. rosemary, an egg white and 5 tbsp. hempseed oil in a blender. The ingredients within the recipe come from stylist Powell, who uses pomegranate and camellia oil in place of hempseed oil. Feel free to try the recipe with these oils later, once the hempseed oil has restored your hair’s shine and bounce. The rosemary, Powell says, will help rejuvenate hair follicles.
Apply the mask to your hair and let it sit for five minutes.
Rinse off the mask with cool water and magnificence as usual.
½ cup liquid soap
½ cup water
Empty shampoo bottle
3 tbsp. milk
3 tbsp. honey
3 tbsp. rosemary
Using hempseed oil won’t cause you to check positive on a drug test or experience any mind-altering effects, in keeping with author Brigitte Mars.
